tempestuously: ([gravi] nobel prize for evil?)
I did it! I finally caught up on my LJ readings. I need to stop being a plurk-obsessed slacker and actually like check this thing once in a while. I had some rants (mostly dealing with Katsucon and its ability to make me feel completely detached from the world yay -- aside from [livejournal.com profile] realms_of_life who is love), LJ plastering my screen with game ads (no I don't care), jeers for the Maryland General Assembly for being so indecisive on the gay marriage bill and refusal to watch then new ponies (I woooon't.)

I also had kudos for [livejournal.com profile] sari_15, whose essay on the latest VK Chapter makes me feel like a lazy slug who really needs to get around to reading that chapter and analyzing it properly. I need to shake my VK annoyance in general because the developments in this chapter are actually quite interesting and could add something different to the Zero situation. That reminds me, I really should hang up my pretty Zero poster already.

It has been a very mixed week for the Nayami, with mood swings a plenty. I need to catch up on Star Driver, Young Justice, Drag Race and the manga I picked up from Katsucon. I also need to go check out King's Speech and do some other D.C.-related things. I have been having much fun with The Lost Hero, which pretty much spares itself of any of the character issues that plagued the first series. I still want my Thalia though.

I had poli-rants but they can be summed up as: MAKE UP YOUR MINDS PEOPLE.
tempestuously: ([vk] the art of topping)
I solved my book dilemma by flipping a coin. So far "Shadow's Edge" is quite interesting. Plus, it has more of sexy assassin Vi so that's always a bonus. In other library news, "The Passage" ended up being a day late and when I picked up books yesterday nobody told me I had a fine. It's not like it's going to go up, but I'm still irked.

I was in an Elfen Lied move yesterday but wasn't quite up for a rewatch so I did the next best thing. I watched Sage's Elfen Lied Abridged, which is a masterpiece in both TERRIBLE DARK HUMOR (no, I am serious, if you have seen EL you can guess what he's going to be mocking YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED) and plotty humor. I am sad he only did 10 episodes for a 13 episode series but oh well. Elfen Lied is always a special series for me since it had so much I don't like: rampant nudity for the sake of nudity, main characters that I want to bludgeon in the head, overt violence to women, loli abuse because you have to meet the loli fetish and over-the-top depressing back stories. But the over-arching story is just so good! As are Kurama and Lucy. They more than make up for the suck. More people should watch because whether you like it or not, it's an experience.

Sadly, my search for something to fill the void the missing three Abridged episodes left in my soul led me to Vampire Knight Abridged (Warning: Yuuki's voice is LOUD AND PAINFUL), mostly because all Code Geass parodies rely on memes and don't know how to do humor in an interesting way suitable for CG. Anyway, I'm not going to lie, Gabi and I are totally addicted to VK Abridged. It starts out kind of shaky but gradually gets quite good.

Pros: Zero is an asshole I love this, Yuuki fantasizes about Kaname/Zero yaoi to the point that Kaname has to explain to her that he and Zero aren't going to have babies, Aidou is flamboyant and in love with Zero, Twilight jokes beautiful Twilight jokes, any scene with the Night Class together is magical especially with bitching Shiki, Yagari is a pirate and Zero calls him Daddy, Zero and Kaname's fighting over Yuuki is amazing, Cross wailing about his BABIES, great one liners, Kaname and Zero's voice actors slay me. Oh yeah and the vampires are crazily addicted to chocolate and shiny things LIKE KITTIES Zero is secretly fond of shiny things as well. :\ This is perhaps my most favorite random vampire trait yet and I have "borrowed" it for my one AU.

Cons: YUUKI'S VOICE WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO SHOVE GLASS INTO YOUR EARS AND IS PAINFULLY LOUD, Yuuki refers to Zero as Edward although she loosely explains why late into the series, a little much focus on Kaname's emo, one or two jokes regarding noncon venture a little too much into the mrrr area, people are harsh to Yuuki but she is more a Twihard than a Bella, the voice actors like to cuss more than I think is necessary.

But yeah, I'm addicted and stayed up entirely too late watching this nonsense. It also made me miss pre-timeskip VK hijinks. Le sigh.

I kind of love the idea of spoofing Family Circus, Charlie Brown and Garfield into political humor.

I want to comment on Woodward's new book, but I need a few days to let it all sink in. Wow.
tempestuously: ([wolf] guardian)
Lol I have to live this week on $25. Wish me luck on that.

I am frustrated with "The Passage" because it has such great ideas, but since it did its time skip it hasn't managed one character that I give a damn about. I loved Carter and I loved Wolgast, but everyone since then has been rather dry. That said, I feel compelled to read it because I want to know what the hell is going on. I don't actually care about anyone, but I just want to know why everything means and why that little girl is so important. Honestly, I think the book would be better if it were told through the perspective of the little girl. The small snippet of a section where we got to see things through her eyes was really interesting, and I want more of it. Much more so than Peter or Sarah or Michael. Triple bleh. Why can't men write good characters?

I'm equally frustrated at the stupidity of one segment of the Vampire Knight fandom. Actually, sickened would probably be the better word because the word-vomit they left in SGK's journal is something they should be embarrassed of. Random speculations about her personal life, rabid fights over translations, declarations about how they couldn't enjoy the series without her overview on the chapters, the creepiest white-knighting I've ever seen and just general rude, whiney, needy entitlement behavior. It's shameful. And no, I won't link to it here. I just want to bitch about it. Yes, I did leave a comment on the journal itself. To SGK herself. I don't feel bad calling out a bunch of fans who should have better self-control, regardless of their age.

Oh, and all I have to say about the LJ mess is I'm glad they're doing SOMETHING. Because if I have to ditch LJ, I'm going to blogspot. I'm not interested in not-quite-LJs.

I was going to write something on people turning 9/11 into a political event and my thing about blaming the media, but I'm more in a vegging mood for the day since I've been taxing my brain hard with AMAZING and fun RP threads. But downtime is good too.

I've also been enjoying the LPs of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The guy I'm watching isn't that great a player, but boy is he entertaining. Him screaming after getting spotted, chased down and then killed by a creature was HILARIOUS. Though I admit that LP made me jump too. That is a damn scary game. Great atmosphere. I regret I can't play because I suck at survival horror and first-person games.

I also finally fixed my slow Internet issues, with help from [livejournal.com profile] jdiam and the actual use of my brain. It was funny to realize I was running Firefox 3.0 when I think we're on 3.7 by now. Also, my multiple-opened windows plus multiple tags probably wasn't the best of ideas. Things have been running much better now! But I haven't tried streaming anything yet. That will be the real test.

Ok, I'm done rambling. Time to track down True Blood and return to my book.

Thus is the theme of this year's Otakon experience.

Aside from Gabi's shameful run-in with fate via After School Charisma and thus dooming us to a fire at the convention (which only lasted about an hour and a half) and Graham's equally horrific bout of food poisoning via our favorite sushi place, Otakon was enjoyable. Meet-ups went down as planned, time spent with [livejournal.com profile] yzak and [livejournal.com profile] anatari was awesome, Todd Habercorn and the Voice Actors After Dark panel was mind-blowingly hilarious, X-Japan was properly fangirled and I was able to blow most of my money on Durarara fanstuffs. Though we were all horribly sad the yaoi was a lie.

I also picked up Red Garden, Nabari no Ou and the final R2 set, along with the Vampire Knight artbook (because I am a sheep) and silly fanarts. Gabi got to learn what it's like to play with Nayami's whacky con schedule and even critiqued the Lelouch cosplayers... from a distance. Masquerade was hit or miss but the advanced set did have some magic in the form of "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" for Hetalia, "Telephone" for Utena: Black Rose Saga, "What's This Feeling" for Roy and Ed vs. fangirls, great Street Fighter demonstrations and sexy ninja break-dancing. Also, some great AMVs.

I think I will be waiting another day to return to the real world since Rachel and I have been mass-marathoning Avatar and I kind of want to watch Book 3 now. I enjoy remembering how much I used to love Avatar and shared with Rachel all of the fan reactions and crazy theories that followed all of the major episodes. Since she was only familiar with the movie, it was quite an experience!

In other news, I prefer the manga version of R2 to the anime, I think. Though I still haven't seen the last volume.

Oh yeah, for some reason Gabi broke down and bought the Night Class Vampire Knight outfit and we have since resigned ourselves to cosplay Zero and Aidou at Katsucon. I PREDICT AGONY. Now, to find me a weapon. *insert evil laugh here*
tempestuously: ([vk] the art of topping)
VK... just VK. I both love you and am confused out of my mind.

Alas, nothing interesting happened in my life today and I don't want to speculate on the insanity of the new chapter until I get more details.
tempestuously: ([vk] the art of topping)
So, yeah, I know I shouldn't have said anything, especially not at 3 in the morning. But I dislike being told that people aren't allowed to express their disagreement toward their series. Hino EXPECTS people to fight over her triangle; it's a gimmick. It's why creators invent the triangles. They like to people on their toes guessing who will end up with who.

Now, this doesn't mean people have to bash each other stupidly. But it does mean I can say what irks me about one pairing or the other without replying to a Kaname/Yuuki fan with "OMG YOUR SO WRONG KANAME IS A BRUTE." I should be able to say that sometimes they are too smaltzy for me. Just as sometimes I think the Zeki fans need to step back and accept that Zero is damaged and is not going to magically forgive Yuuki for their happy fantasies. Just as sometimes I want to smack Yuuki for playing them both. There's a way to disagree without being insulting, and the happy world where everyone ONLY talks about what they love is an impossible utopia. I also think it's severely limiting on discussion.

Oh wait, while I'm ranting about fandom, I want to add that while I forgive interpretations and confusion amid "Lost" fans, that ACTUAL PAID CRITICS/TV ANALYSTS couldn't be arsed to understand a scene that was spelled out WORD FOR WORD in dialogue is simply stunning. I suggest, hmm, listening while you watch.
tempestuously: ([not!kamui] i keep this for trauma)
Birthday is coming! I really want fic to go with my trip to The Lion King on Jan. 3. Yes, I actually did convince Tom to go with my to New York. Super excited!

I apologize for my zoning lately. I'm just having family time and trying to avoid the icy mess of death that's probably my outside. I need to go shopping for Dad's present. Also, I'm skipping out on the newest anon meme since I only have one game and we already did our love-ins.

ETA: Why can't more of VK be Yuuki hanging out with Aidou? He always brings out the super cute in her. That's why I think Aidou is such an amazing part of the VK cast. He is a catalyst for bringing out the most interesting, hidden sides of everyone. Aidou is more than the fanservicey pretty boy that a lot of fans seem to take at surface level. I think I'm beginning to understand why Hino is using him sparingly now. Too much is revealed whenever Aidou is around and she wants to space it out. Fair enough. He's still my absolute favorite.

I really did enjoy Yuuki in this chapter, especially at the end. Zero and Kaitou too. Mild spoilers? )
tempestuously: ([wolf] how about a taste of my fangs?)
I wish I didn't hate the new VK art so I could actually use it in icons, but I really truly think it looks off, especially the latest cover pic. That could have been really sexy too.

I am so restless this week. I was looking forward to going to see the lights tonight but apparently my roomie has forgotten about that venture. I still don't have the belt for my father and I'm planning to leave work early tomorrow to drive home and get it. And I still haven't sent out my family Christmas cards, but I've pretty much decided those are going to go out the day after Christmas. I just want to do something and I don't know what. Though Elisa's tasty cookies did help some. Mmm cookies.

I'm also really irked that asshole Michael Vick is receiving a Courage Award from the Philadelphia Eagles for "turning his life around" and "getting out and playing when everyone is bashing him." FOR MONEY. This is not an altruistic action. The man wants to get paid. Who gives a shit if people hate you if you get paid. That's not courage. Fine, second chances and whatever but don't give him a fucking reward. Ugh, I hate the Eagles and everything they represent.

ETA: My neighbors have just gifted me with ENDLESS COOKIES. ZOMG IT'S A COOKIE-PALOOZA UP IN HERE.

I have many things to say about this chapter when I'm more coherent. But for now, I'll focus on the final panel with Zero and Kaname.

I admit it I fangirled. orz It is always so hot when he uses Kaname's last name.

Now to read.
tempestuously: ([vk] the art of topping)
Note to self: You checked that community to find Zero icons not to engage in dramatic structure squabbles about a shoujo series. Fail Nayami fail. |D

Oh yeah, insert gripes about how I will never ever play a shippable character here. Bawwwwww monogamy/furry/hormonefail.

Ummm, dear sweet Matsuri, you do realize there's a Twilight anime coming out, right? You might want to ixnay on the blatant Twilight atmosphere you give to Kaname and Yuuki, yes? That said, I want to know more about Kaname's secrets and less about how PSYCHOTIC he is around Yuuki. Though her practicing her balance was cute. And Zero and his not!daddy are seriously the duo from HELL. I like! Slight spoiler. ) I want more Takuma too! Also, color pic of Zero with his one red eye: hot.

God, you are psychotic, Yuuki. You so don't deserve Zero. You really don't.

Also, this is not a spoiler. This is me bitching.
tempestuously: ([vk] the art of topping)
Why oh why do I continue to read VK? Maybe it's the same reason I'm watching Star Wars III right now. Way to screw over my character, VK. And yes, I admit I'm whiny about my pairing. It's all I like about VK anyway. Wah. The only redeeming factor is the weapons that eat blood; now that is cool.

I'm going to read me some Shinshi Doumei Cross now.
tempestuously: ([geass] space between)
And now, for your five-second reaction to R2 Turn 18, which I finally got after a certain translator decided to no longer match its files. Grr snarl hiss. Ok it was like a five minute switch but whatev. )

ETA: VK Chapter 42... d'awww. I am filled with happiness and love. Yuuki~ ♥ ♥ Man, everyone who said I would be sad was SO WRONG.
tempestuously: ([vk] dancing vampires oh my)
It's funny that this video actually made me forget my ship crankies. It's so cute. Triangle~

... Also VK manga is supposed to have two parts now? And we're only near the end of the one? Gulp. And I am perfectly aware late news is late. I'm lazy with this fandom, ok.
tempestuously: ([not!kamui] take me away)
Hmm, I've had a migraine all day. The pills aren't helping. I don't like that I'm periodically light-headed and woozy either. I have nothing to blame. I'm just irked.

Words of Wisdom from Country Channel: "Never finish an apology with an excuse."

Now that is one I'm going to have to work at because I'm notorious for doing it.

In other news, my raging hate for all Kaname/Yuuki makes me feel like a Harmony fan. It's not like I think the pairing is the equivalent of some natural disaster or anything. It's just that it makes me want to pick up the manga and beat Hino in the face for an undetermined time. At least an hour. And yes, it makes me wish for Kaname's death. Damn, just when I was starting to reconsider his character. Now you know why I never get invested in pairings, Graham.
tempestuously: ([kh] sweet memories)
I just realized the place I have to drive tomorrow morning is a full hour away. Plus, I have to work an extra two hours. I'm bringing a book. Sucks to be me.

Speaking of sucks, I checked out some Vampire Knight anime music videos because I love Zero/Yuki like burning. At that note, if Zeki is actually the pairing name, I will beat someone. Anyway, dear heaven does the animation suck. Zero looks all bulky and disproportionate and the entire coloring style just murders the emotion in the scenes. Yuki looks pretty and got off pretty well. I still haven't found my animated icon of Zero's eyes shifting from normal to vampiric red so I'll keep looking.

I also watched There Will Be Blood. That movie be fucked up. Wow.
