(no subject)

I am seriously contemplating never posting in the Avatar community again. Now where is the discussion community I heard about?

Argh, why do I always have to go to work when I get to the really good parts of an anime. I want to see if Fakir and Ahiru do more bonding. They are so cute. I need a Fakir icon. Or maybe Fakir/Ahiru. I need something Princess Tutu related.

Do I dare ask? I figure you're talking about [livejournal.com profile] avatar_fans, which I tend to avoid like the friggin' plague...

I believe she is. *nods.* The community has some good discussion potential, but at the same time it is really annoying. The in-depth discussion posts are the only reason why I haven't left it myself. Though one discussion about Aang really being the last Airbender or not, almost did it. A lot of close minded people were so arrogant (worse than when they ship characters) that I could barely stand it.

Aww, but don't go yet Nayami. Your post was one of the most honest to goodness posts I've seen in a long while. By that I mean, it was an in-depth analysis of aspects of the show that's not too often discussed. No bitching, no shipping, just good material. ^^;

Ahh, sou. See, I abandoned that comm way early on when the first wankfests started appearing. I really enjoy Avatar but it's not a show I play in the fandom for, it's a show I just enjoy; and I didn't want to let the asshats in the community ruin that for me like it's happened with some other shows.

I mean, if there isn't a straight-up serious discussion community maybe someone should think of making one. I'd probably watch that because I do enjoy good meaty discussions, it's just when I quit [livejournal.com profile] avatar_fans, there really weren't any. There wasn't much meat to the place at all and my flist was getting spammed by mediorce fic and art. *shrugs* I hadn't felt much of a need to stick my head back into that pit of wolves.

Since I don't know many people (RL and online) who watch Avatar, the community fills a certain gap. However with that said, a few asses almost did ruin it for me (one person in particular, but it's rude to name, so I won't). It was only through sheer stubbornness did I stand my ground and refuse to leave. It's probably because [livejournal.com profile] avatar_fans is the only place to find some discussion, or maybe any discussion for that matter. Considering the amount of snark, subpar fiction, art and discussion comments that really isn't saying much.

I thought there might have been a community dedicated to discussion, but I haven't been able to find it. Someone should make such a community, but I fear that it might go to waste. I only say that because there doesn't seem to be too many people that enjoy in depth discussion. The majority of posts seem to be about shipping, incest (*shudder*) and other various pairings. If such a discussion community is created, I do hope that I'm proven wrong (those discontent with discussion at avatar_fans could always unite and try something better).

I know of several fans on my friendslist who avoid or are always speaking negatively about [livejournal.com profile] avatar_fans ... perhaps it is time for such a discussion group. It could always be a low-key place ... not widely advertised ... so as not to attract the undesirable elements. *shrugs* It's an idea. I mean, the wank gets tiring really quickly, and ship wars? BAH.

I'm kinda of interested in creating a community specifically for that, now...

Other than Nayami, I don't know anyone else on my friendslist who watches Avatar. But if such a community were to be created, I'd definitely give it a try. ;) In such a case quality over quantity sounds good.
