If I've gotta beg and plead to make you see I need you in my life, love is stronger than pride

Not good with first week of new jobs. Ever. I make a damn fool out of myself. But assignment's going OK.

Best thing about writing my YamiKai essay is that it helped me find the lovely Pharaoh's Palace again. *huggles it* The refuge for the good YamiKai writers and the links of gold that was lost to Yahoo's clutches. I finally have an American site again...er...web group...archive...whatever. Now I want to write about the priest and the pharaoh again. *sniffles*

After receiving a certain comment to the essay, I wondered if I never expressed myself clearly in the writing. It worried me since I spent so much time on the canon. Though it should be pointed out that dubbed Yugioh kills a lot of YamiKai hints and that you must catch subbed Yugioh to pick up on a lot of the insight. Maybe I never gave enough of my actual opinion in my essay. So I shall do so here (minus the huge essay of canon and kink).

Kaiba does have a great deal of pride. But while I play on the word "loathing" I very much doubt Kaiba "hates" Yami anymore. As my non-slasher friend puts it, they're reluctant friends. You don't spend a large deal of your time trying to understand the point of view of someone you hate, and Kaiba canonically does. As said above, he does it throughout the storyline, particularly in the anime, as if part of him wants to accept this more optimistic stance. The main reason he gave Yami the Devil's Sanctuary card was to see if Yami could prove the power of faith in friends. After trying to analyze why he initially lost to Yami, Kaiba came to the conclusion that it was because, for some odd reason, friendship made Yami stronger. He's curious about this idea. He considers it a "miracle" and when he trusts Yami, it's usually to see if friendship lives up to its name. More often than not, he sees some truth, if only just a smidgeon, in Yami's words. That's definitely not hate.

I agree that Kaiba is obsessed with his cards (not so much Obelisk because he would have thrown a bigger fit out of losing it; he was more pissed that he lost to Yami. Kaiba is rational about his cards at times.) Plus, if you want to take the movie into account, he's willing to sacrifice his cards to find a way to get Yami. That's pretty damn obsessive. But that's also an American movie. So...About Gozaburou, Kaiba really does want to escape that deep down. That's why he goes through with his plan to build Kaiba Land. That's where Grand Prix takes place. It's also established that Kaiba has conquered Gozaburou and his demons, after helping Yami. In the Doma arc, he frequently tells Dartz how he and Mokuba have only light in their hearts and how they have destroyed their darkness. Not much to refute him after that point. I mean, he is fighting for the sake of someone other than himself in Doma; he agrees to help people. I can't bring in the manga because we don't see much of Kaiba after Battle City so I guess it can be assumed that he's doing better in that version as well.

So while it is true that Kaiba has great pride, he also learns to tone down that pride BECAUSE of Yami's influence. Yami teaches him. There's no doubt about that. And he's willing to listen. The only other person he really listens to is Mokuba. His brother. I think that says something about a relationship, even if you don't want to go as far as love. There's trust and respect there. Yami is certainly *important* to him, in more ways than just a rival. It's not going out on a limb to suggest kinship.

I also don't think it's unrealistic to believe that occasionally hate can turn to love. Kaiba hated Yami because Yami was better than him (Kaiba's been conditioned to WIN) and because Yami *hurt* him. The nightmares. Yami hated Kaiba because he hurt Yami's friends. They redeemed each other. This situation happens in fiction all the time and nobody ever sees it as unrealistic. People can change. People do. And like I said above, the intensity of feeling was always present, it just needed to be coaxed into the right direction. With that much volatile emotion, a sudden switch could change hate to love. The obsession/possession are still there. As for obsessed with other things? Face it, Kaiba goes out of his way to get to Yami (death theme parks, Battle City, ect.) Nobody else captures his attention for so long. He even thinks about him when they're apart. Perfect set-up for feelings if given a chance.

In conclusion, I leave you with a song..OF CORNINESS!

I am a cornball country gal.

But I had to tell you I hate how I hurt you
Now I know how bad I hurt me too

If I've gotta get down on my knees tonight I'll do it
If you want to see me cry then baby, let's get to it
If I've gotta beg and plead
To make you see I need you in my life
Well, love is stronger than pride

I've got no right to ask you to forgive me
But I've got no choice 'cause it's about to kill me
I've been headstrong and I was dead wrong
And one minute more without you's just too long

If I've gotta get down on my knees tonight I'll do it
If you want to see me cry then baby, let's get to it
If I've gotta beg and plead
To make you see I need you in my life
Well love is stronger than pride

If I've gotta beg and plead
To make you see I need you in my life
Well love is stronger than pride
Oh, if I've gotta beg and plead
To make you see I need you in my life
(Well love is stronger) My love is stronger
Love is stronger than pride

Um, I think the Kaiba shall kill me now. *hides*
