*must stop reading random people's journals and feeling urge to comment here*

Real quick, I wonder if it ever occurs to people that the reason people post on comms is because not many on their FL are interested enough in a topic to generate a decent discussion. It does not necessarily mean they are proclaiming their word as law. It's a "I think this and am going to be very opinionated about it because I feel strong about it. How do you feel?" At least that's how it should be. But no, it turns into "Oh you're suggesting your opinion is the *only* valid one? Don't you even care how others feel? K thanks die." I want someone to explain to me since when did it mean that you invalidated everyone else's opinion just by posting your own. I can say I think American Idol is a waste of space. Does this automatically mean I expect everyone to agree? Uh, no. Does it mean I can try to make them see my point? Sure, that's what persuasion is all about. Does it mean I will succeed? No. Does my attempt to succeed hurt them? I should hope not, but if it's not the case a simple "look, we're just not going to see eye to eye on this" should settle things. People get offended by things. Such is life but before exploding in a fiery rage of wrath, you can always tell someone what they said was not well accepted. If they continue to jerk your chain, yeah they deserve the repercussions.

No, this is not directly related to last night's issue. It's a combination of something I've ran headlong into every single time I've posted anything slightly, or in most cases, heavily opinionated on anything. I just happened to do that at least three times within the past few days.

To be fair, most of the time I've encountered trouble is when I posted something criticizing. I'm sure if I posted "I love Itachi and here's why" on a comm, nobody would care. However, if I posted "I hate Itachi and here's why," then we run into issue. That I usually go with the latter is more of my personality. I'm a bitch. Facts are facts. People shouldn't get so worked up over opinions that obviously will have no impact on them. Now if they were presidential/legislative opinions, that's a reasonable concern. And why I think Bush should watch his use of religious context when presenting an issue. But on the Intraweb, nobody's going to lock you in jail for expressing an unpopular view. They might argue with you. But it's when people turn things into personal issues, as if they were ever going to meet each other in RL, that the entire thing becomes ridiculous. That I think Yamato is a callous plot device and you find him an engaging character does not mean that either of our statements will have any impact whatsoever on the flow of the story. Just two people defending a view. I love Sasuke more than any other fictional character. You may not. Does that make any of us better than the other? Does it matter?

In short, unless someone is clearly confusing opinion with fact, think before you take it personally. Then maybe fandom can be what it used to be about in the time of video tape fansubs and before the mass availability and instant gratification media: sharing of thoughts and speculations over a period of time. It would be nice to have something to fall back on you're not in the mood for the ourpouring of media/fanworks or OTP-whoring.

*note: I am fully aware that this whole post is also an opinion*

That was not as quick as I expected. Nayami has been thinking too much. She needs some nice cracky anime to kill those pesky brain cells. That or she needs to RP more, which would keep her out of comms and in camp.
