Yeah, that scene is in the manga AND in the manga it was a 'big reveal' when the reader found out Rem was a girl. All the time we were led to believe that Rem was male until the scene where she wrote down the name that killed her. The fansubbers are trying to preserve that by calling her a 'he' until it is time for the big reveal.
