I am trying not to be upset so I will just post something productive.
I admit I only donated because my friend is there and I want to help the situation in general. But I'm sure others are less selfish than me and want to help just for the sake of it. So text the word "Haiti" to 90999 to donate $10 on behalf of the American Red Cross. It registers on your cell phone bill.
I really wish I could have posted happy news today. I was looking forward to it. Right now, I just feel detached. Though I do wish again to thank
rubyd for dealing with my freaking out last night.
Anyway, I finished the first Percy Jackson book. I guessed everything. I have mixed feelings overall. It is way way way cliched, and the constant on-again-off-again stupidity of the characters infuriates me. Like how Percy could come up with his plan against ___ and still be dumb enough to trot merrily after ___ after getting every mental warning in the world of BAD IDEA DUMBASS. Ugh. But the thing that irks me the most is
Aka Luke. I do hope Riordan makes him a more developed character in the later books and does not go the "oooh I'm darkly intellectual and want to take our the gods for sake of the mortals" route. Because while the motivation has potential, the execution was messy. I'm still looking forward to Nico in later books. And I still think Ares is bad-assed. I like Hades too; he's pissy but with reason. Luke is just *insert complex emotional anithero reasoning here*. Meh. Totally ruined my enjoyment of the last part of the book. Here's hoping Percy Jackson pulls a "The Gunslinger" on me and that the later stuff absolutely rocks.
ETA: My Percy Jackson ramblings were posted entirely to distract me from my Haiti frettings so if you have anything to say about them, I prefer it be of an equally distracting nature because I so don't actually care about the book's logistics right now.
