I've got to admit, I'm not fond of calling her a "bimbo", aside from the obvious reasons, I'm not sure how it applies. I can get behind you not liking the character - I was pretty indifferent to her myself, but I felt her fight scenes were fun. Plus she helped the movie pass the Bechdel test. I can see where she could be pretty useless though, I think I'm too used to characters being included simply to expand the universe (Gypsy was in a good chunk of the episodes of DC's "Justice League Unlimited" series, and never once spoke a line. She was just there to spice up the background with more heroes.) You're welcome to not like her, but I'm not sure I follow how "bimbo" applies...
In Marvel's defense, this Avengers team is clearly designed to be the original Avengers team...which was started back in the 60's...so, yeah. Not to mention that of the main Marvel women, they're pretty limited. They can't use Storm or any of the other X-men, since they don't have access to them. Likewise they can't use the Invisible Woman, or Spider Woman, who is tied up in the Spiderman franchise. That leaves She-Hulk, who is one of my favorite Marvel heroines...but would probably not be taken seriously enough for a movie - Ms. Marvel, who would actually be a neat addition to the series, but would probably require a movie of her own to be explained, and I don't think that'll happen until DC gets off their asses and puts out a Wonder Woman movie - and The Wasp, who is really nothing more than a female version of Ant-Man and whose big claim to fame is getting hit by her husband. Ant-man is still being rumored but not confirmed though. Joss Whedon heavily implied at Comicon that Nathan Fillion (did I spell that right?) would take the role if it was added. And if Ant-man joins, we'll probably get The Wasp too, since they're a matched set.
...not saying it's okay persay, merely that it's exactly what I expected given the set-up and the fact that they don't have the broadcast rights to most of the female heavy hitters. Honestly, I'm more upset by how damn white the cast is, though I knew that would happen too. I'm still holding out hope that they'll throw War Machine in there.
...but I'm still geeking out that we'll get Hawkeye. SQUEE!
OH MAN! I'm sorry, I got nerd all over your journal! Let me wipe that up for you!
In which I ramble on about one sentence since its the only thing I have an opinion on...
