I think it... pretty much all depends on your own priorities/finances. If you think it's definitely worth it to send it to Data Recovery in spite of all the crazy expenses I say go for it. Otherwise you might just end up regretting it and wondering "BUT WHAT IF THEY HAD BEEN ABLE TO RECOVER XXXX?". It's all about how much you value your information, I guess. :(
