Redemption
Just wanted to say the KakaSaku is probably the WORST of the teacher/student pairings I have ever seen. =P
Hmm, deep friendship is all fine and good but sometimes when you have passages like these, you have to wonder:
"And so Gollum found them hours later, when he returned, crawling and creeping down the path out of the gloom ahead. Sam sat propped against the stone, his head dropping sideways and his breathing heavy. In his lap, lay Frodo's head, drowned deep in sleep; upon his white forehead lay one of Sam's brown hands, and the other lay softly upon his master's breast. Peace was in both their faces.
Gollum looked at them. A strange expression passed over his lean hungry face. The gleam faded from his eyes, and they went dim and grey, old and tired. A spasm of pain seemed to twist him, and he turned away, peering back up towards the pass, shaking his head, as if engaged in some interior debate. Then he came back, and slowly putting out a trembling hand, very cautiously he touched Frodo's knee -- but almost the touch was a caress."
--"The Stairs of Cirith Ungol", The Two Towers, J.R.R. Tolkien
In Tolkien class today, we were talking about redemption and Gollum and how I didn't think he was ultimately redeemed. Fellow student argued that he was because of the whole destruction of the Ring. I said it wasn't voluntary and that true redemption must come from the will. It doesn't count if fate steps in and gives you a push; you also have to accept your redemption. This brought up a huge arguement between us, which the mean prof stopped because we were getting off-track and she wanted to discuss Sam's ramblings about stories and go into Tolkien's post-modern style of this passage. This got me to thinking about how most of my favorite characters are the redeemed sinners and my obsession with redemption in fiction. Being a redeemed sinner is the quickest way to Nayami's heart.
*Please note that I haven't seen all of Shaman King so I don't know what happens with Lyserg.
I know Magic Knight Rayearth has Eagle Vision but I can't remember him. ><
Read Shaman King 6. Ren has the most kick-ass entrance in the world. I can't believe I have to wait until SEPTEMBER to see him fight Yoh. >< And I'm not convinced that the little animal was firing a water hose at Manta and not simply pissing on him.
Now onto reviewing more stuffs, reading some plays, and thinking up analysis.
