Half bird, half emo, bishie wizard
I get to clean the kitchen. And I now have three Blue Eyes and some nifty magic cards for my dragon deck.
Decided to forgoe the Batman and check out Bale in "Howl's Moving Castle." All I have to say is Howl, I LOVE YOU, you beautiful, flamboyant, emo, bird-man. It was love at first sight when I first saw him save Sophie from the guards but the moment with the hair fiasco was the point of no return. He has joined my list of all-time favorite male characters. He's just so SPECIAL. And the main girl didn't annoy me. She was actually pretty cool. Not only that but it even had Crispin Freeman. Tom said that since Freeman's character hardly talks, they probably just threw in Freeman's name to fill up the space. After all, Freeman's in everything. I hope that this gets a bigger release soon so I can go see it again. It made me want to read the book so I can figure out some things. People who think they get the movie can attempt these queries.
1. What sort of deal did Howl make with Calcifer that resulted in their union and Howl losing his heart?
2. Does Sophie ever break her spell or does she just discover a happy medium with her young spirit and gray hair?
3. What causes Sophie to randomly de-age throughout the movie?
4. Why did Suliman suddenly stop the war at the end? I thought she seemed much more wicked than that.
5. Why did Suliman's dog randomly join the good guys?
6. What's the connection between Howl's lack of a heart and his changing into a bird? Why did Calcifer say his condition was getting worse?
7. Did Prince Turnip really fall in love with Sophie enough for her to break his spell, even though they were barely together and she was clearly with Howl?
8. After the Witch of the Waste lost her powers to Suliman, why did she seem totally out of it at times and at others completely coherent?
9. Did Sophie's presence suddenly make Howl care about his guests? Since I doubt he ever fed Markl before.
10. What was up with Howl being a black bird? I would think he would prefer some outrageously colored bird or maybe a huge swan?
Best of all, now I finally understand Biz's whacky icon of Howl in a CGed dress. So true.
Need to find Howl image gallery so that there may be icons.

- Basically Calcifer was a fallen star & Howl saved him by giving away his heart. Calcifer has a lot of power & uses this to run Howl's castle (it's a sort of contract thing).
- Asides from a few comments from Calcifer about Howl being "heartless" (& Sophie being convinced at first that Howl is evil), he's actually just a very vain but good-natured guy. So yes, he did feed Michael. XD
- There were no wacky bird-transformations in the book...however, I can recommend it on the grounds of it being a fun, whimsical fairytale parody. #^__^#
- He does seem rather...flaming...in the movie, doesn't he? LOL He's straight in the book, sadly. ;D
