Must work but am mad pissed about anime blogs attacking Sunrise for the end of Geass 21. It has been explained before why Geass is manic the way it is, and while I do not like it, you either get used to it or you stop watching and stop bitching. People are jumping to conclusions that may or may not be accurate, but don't you dare call it a throwback to Lelouch's character development. Lelouch may have a fear of flying when it comes to certain people/situations, but he's also been from the very start a driven and quite selfish character when it comes to his goals. You challenge them, and you bring down Armageddon upon yourself.

ETA: Spoilers make Nayami a very sad kitten. But there is however one spoiler I heard a while back that could still hold true, seeing as the the current events/spoilers haven't ruled out the final episode partial summaries I read several weeks ago. So I will hold out hope that this one is valid: "In the final part, Lelouch will be resembling the word 'evil' a lot, the tenderness and kindness that's deep inside of him didn't disappear, though. But circumstances like this and that forbid him to show any of them."

*highlight part between the quotations for the text, which has been whited out*

I'd say he has the "My favourite obscure band is now selling millions, therefore they sold out and now suck!" problem, but he also watches Kanon, so that's not it. I think he just has...problems with not seeing the characters for what they really are. He sees them in categories I surmise from his impressions, Lelouch being the 'Light Character type' or, as he's been led of late 'Hero of Justice'. And he really isn't. Euphemia being the 'Heroine of Peace' ala Lacus. And when they're shown not to be a perfect role, he's disappointed. Really, it doesn't take that much to know that everyone is chock full of flaws and messed up.

(I do have my disappointments with Geass lately, but the awesome regularly > the could-be-better)

Eh, I don't mind Lelouch-Light comparisons, even though I also find myself unintentionally bashing Light. Light is great, but he's also vastly inferior in complexity. But Garten's use of it annoys me. Lelouch =/= Light, Suzaku and/or Euphie most definitely =/= L. The way the fight works is not the same. CAN WE STOP SAYING IT IS. As for Lelouch being evil...I prefer the word 'selfish'. Because that's really how his 'evil' is, at this point...and it's a much more understandable, much more sympathizable-hatable word than 'evil'.

See, that's exactly what I've enjoyed about Geass once it really got going around 11 or so. I liked how even though the characters could easily have been the classic Gundam archetypes, they had these weird little flaws and details that made them something entirely different from what I've seen in anime. When we learned more about Suzaku, this respect only deepened. The Geass characters more often than not feel very real to me, and even when they do the "wrong" things, I find I can understand why they do them and why their mentality causes them to make those choices. That's why I'm not furious with Euphemia for what she's done, even though I know it will only lead to misery. Euphemia truly believed she was helping Lelouch and probably Suzaku too in working toward an ideal world. I can't be angry with Lelouch for resenting her for this since it destroys everything he's worked so hard for and this is just another in his history of losses. He's likely to lose everything again. I don't like it when people try to put any of the characters into another character's shoes for anything other than a quick jest. They are not Seed characters. They are not Clamp characters. They are simply Geass characters.

Your comment about Light and the lack of complexity is what always leads to me sounding too harsh when I compare him and Lelouch. The idea of Suzaku or Euphemia as L is so ridiculous, I don't know how anyone can actually process such a thought. L was a genius. Neither Suzaku or Euphemia are the brightest crayons in the box. When it came to brains, me thinks Schneizel and Lelouch may have gotten the lions share. I also agree with the word selfish when explaining Lelouch's more tricky actions. I think when he's feeling particularly bad, he tries to justify things with his perfect world for Nunnally when deep down it's really all about missing his mommy and his happy Japanese life.

Same. <3 I simply love the amount of detail and attention they put into their characters, the way they sketch them so you never really quite get the full picture, but just enough to see it. You can tell the writers love their job. And their flaws aren't huge angsty flaws like, oh, Ikari Shinji. It's just a bunch of little things that have a bad habit of accumulating and exploding at critical mass. (I think this is part of why Garten misunderstands what Lulu is. 19's Nice Lulu is there to show Lulu's a nice guy who simply does questionable things for the right thing, nor to show that he any means has grown to be a better person. 19's Nice Lulu is who he used to be before the world fucked him, and the deepest basis of Lulu's mindset is still rather nice, but he's messed up, past the point of being saved and doesn't want to be saved)

They are not Seed characters. They are not Clamp characters. They are simply Geass characters.

Amen.

Suzaku and Euphemia aren't the brightest crayons, but they have L's static justice. Therefore.

19's Lulu tends to confuse people as to how he is, but we can clearly see how he's still as conflicted as ever. Interesting that you refer to this as "messed up, past the point of being saved and doesn't want to be saved." What does this mean for Lelouch's future?

Well, now that you mention it, fanart of Suzaku and Euphemia doing the L pose would be pretty funny.

Also, I'm friending you just so you know because I enjoy reading your take on things, and you and [livejournal.com profile] defade keep me abreast of things.

Oooooooo. Does that mean I can now discussstalk your journal legally? :DDD

Lelouch's future...I don't think he is past the point of salvation, it's just that he can't be saved by others. They can try, and he might even appreciate some attempts, but from what we've seen thus far I think he's built too many walls between himself and everybody else. If he's going to get a happy ending, he'll have to Realize/Accept Things and work towards it himself. /opinion

And when I said "19's Nice Lulu is there to show Lulu's a nice guy who simply does questionable things for the right thing", I meant NOT. *facepalm, oh typos*
