Yeah, it's a bit inconsistent with his later characterization, especially considering what he said later on the issue. (Re : Suzaku's patricide) I also tend to chalk it up to power tripping---he's been powerless for so long, and spent most of Episode 2 being intoxicated. His happy manic laugh in 2 and his laugh in 23? When he realizes he can destroy Area 11 Britannia and when he IS destroying Area 11 Britannia, I love your contrasts, CG. But then there's also how he spent a long time living in a Clovis-ruled Area 11, and by then he might have lost any affection he might have for Clovis. Imagine this little boy with a wrecked life in a wrecked land, seeing his chess-partner brother coming to rule and thinking everything's going to be fine now...and have all his hopes crashing in flames. For seven years. And 01's massacre. It would be much easier to rationalize and even rejoice, then. Clovis is the symbol of Lelouch's own helplessness.
In Taniguchi's own words, Code Geass' genre is 'Please watch Lelouch' and I must confess I like this genre better than most of the rest. XD He IS everything one could want, even in his 'light' parts. Just so very complex, so very well designed, so very well written. And the creators are not afraid to hurt him and change him, which makes it more heartbreaking awesome. /fangirl
I won't exactly boycott them if they shuffle Lelouch off, BUT whoever takes his place better damn well be FUCKING IMPRESSIVE. Even if he IS a better character, he won't have the attachment. The bar is set ridiculously high. If they can overcome it? More power to them. But it would take a feat rarely done in fiction, in 25 episodes. *snort*
