Vermillion Bird of the South
Finished Oz Season 4. The irony of the ending amused me. But I'm disappointed in what has happened to Said's character because I don't think it's entirely justified. So far, this and the doctor's sick love for Ryan are the only things to really miss with me when it comes to this show. I guess Toby and Schillinger aren't going to play nice anymore. I would have liked to see more of their sessions instead of just know that they were going on. Also, someone needs to explain to me what the fuck was wrong with Clayton. I loved the guy who volunteered to help him, fully knowing Clayton was a few tits short of a deal there. The character of Burr Redding continues to intrigue me and I find him a worthy replacement for Adelbesi with much less blatant racism going for him. He's simply a soldier. Busmalis and Rebeadow really are the old married couple here. But I did kind of want to see Busmalis end up with his girl; she was sweet. The aging drug was pretty random, but it led to more O'Reilly brother snuggles and forgiveness so I'll let it pass. McManus' little puppy prisoner is both cute and bizarre. I love when he flipped out at the other inmates for calling McManus gay. The basketball arc really depressed me because I liked Brass and know he's just going to go crazy now. Why can't Redding's people be better at killing Morales? What happened with the sweet Chinese guy was totally uncalled for. I miss Keller. He and Ryan are my favorites. I love him best when I think he actually does desire peace but knows there's too much bloodthirst in him to allow it or deserve it.
sapphira_angel made an observation a few weeks ago that I just came across and found very poignant.
Suzaku's name makes sense now. He's reborn each time his reality is destroyed.
Does this mean that the post-23 Suzaku is an entirely different animal from young Suzaku? Young Suzaku was a bitch but he also had this side of him that couldn't stand seeing people bullied and secretly wanted someone to connect to. I don't know why but I get the feeling that young Suzaku was very much a loner. Post-23 Suzaku seems cold and vicious, with those gorgeous murderous eyes, but lacking the pride that was such an integral part of young Suzaku. The magazine pictures hint that he might also still have his "warrior knight" persona he had as fake Suzaku (or the persona in which he lied to himself) so he might actually be a compilation of all his previous forms. Not mention, regardless of his persona, Suzaku can't seem to escape the baptism of fire.
