tempestuously: ([geass] will be the death of you)

I know that I can find the fire in your eyes

Well, I fixed the issue I was having with no camera drivers. That issue being that I'm a moron who forgot that most programs post-2000 come with pre-installed drivers. At least I can finally post pictures of my haircut.

Checked out the "Breath" Geass vid and while I'm a bit jealous because that has always been my secret project, I think it needs a little tweaking. I'm not a fan of downtime in vids unless the music is really slow. If you have screaming, you need action. "Breath" is a song meant for an action vid. I admit my ideal use for the song would be a SuzaLulu focus because the song is so very Suzaku, much like "Bent." Because really "start hating" is the perfect lead-in to Ore!Suzaku freakoutery. Can't say I wouldn't go for the same ending though. XD

ETA: Um, doujin, can we not have adorable kiddie flashbacks in the middle of sex? k thnx.

I has a plan for the weekend:

1. Make new Geass screencaps while listening to AS end tracks
2. Make pretty AS and Alexiel icons
3. Catch up on Toward the Terra
4. Review the Geass fic I've missed (excluding rape because no)
5. Finish whatever memes I set up for myself
6. Scan at least one doujin

Although most of it was unintentional, it's true that Lelouch made Suzaku everything he is now. The moment Lelouch got into the truck in episode 1 was the moment he set everything in motion -- Suzaku getting shot, the Special Dispatch recovering him, Clovis allowing Lancelot to launch because Lelouch proved to be too much to handle, etc. Had Lelouch not been there at all, Suzaku would probably have stayed a grunt his entire life and not been able to change anything, since it is Britannian policy to "discriminate against Numbers", as Cornelia puts it.

In short, Zero's existence is absolutely necessary for Suzaku to be able to climb up the ranks and gain influence.

It's also interesting how Zero's actions have always allowed Suzaku to stay in the Britannian military without staining his hands too much. In episode 13, when Suzaku was told to kill everyone except Katase despite the JLF already having surrendered, it's possible that Suzaku might have actually snapped there and then and disobeyed orders (he already did it once in episode 8), which would have meant getting kicked out of the military. If he had obeyed the orders, that would also be the end of Suzaku, because the one thing that has kept him going is his faith that Britannian rule is what's best for Japan (because it's relatively peaceful -- nevermind the oppression) and that he can change the things he doesn't like. Then Zero shows up, blows up Katase's ship, and Suzaku immediately goes into "ZERO MUST DIE!!" mode. No more inner anguish for Suzaku.

The same thing happens in episode 17; had Zero not saved Toudou, Suzaku would have to face the choice between executing Toudou himself, or disobey Cornelia's orders. Again, thanks to Zero, he has to do neither. While this is a good thing in the sense that Suzaku never has to face any further trauma, it also means that Suzaku never has to seriously think about his place in the military, nor whether Britannia is right or wrong, and he remains able to avoid thinking about Britannia's atrocities. We've never heard Suzaku's thoughts on the Shinjuku or Saitama massacre, precisely because, in Suzaku's simple (not in a bad way) mind, there was a "bigger" evil present in both cases: Zero.

. . . oooooh that song does work well for Suzaku. "I'm going all the way, get away, please" in particular rings true of the end of episode twenty-three. And of course, "I will be the death of you" is absolutely accurate. . . Suzaku is the greatest threat to Lelouch, especially considering the pseudo-immortality he's been granted. Along with Lelouch's own reluctance to lay a finger on Suzaku, sacrificing to the point of endangering his own success. Even at the end, when he knew Suzaku was out for blood-- his blood -- it still took the "you shouldn't exist" exclamation to get Lelouch to draw his weapon on him as well.

Agreed with Celiss' thoughts there too. It works well with the detail in one of her other comments that CLAMP described Suzaku as the "blessed fool", the one who has everything go his way. He can say what he likes to his superior officers, but the fact is that unnecessary killing is something that he cannot internally accept. Saying it is one thing; doing it is quite another.

In the case of the JLF, he may have agreed to go along with orders when he was assigned the mission, even knowing what it might cause, but once he actually saw the people he would be killing. . . then began the questioning of Britannia's actions. Like Celiss said, it would have been a lose-lose situation: either refuse to follow orders and thus have the military kick him out, leaving him in a situation where he can change nothing, or go along with the orders and suffer a fresh round of self-hatred soon afterwards. As for Toudou, he didn't even have to voice that he would go along with his mission, much less point a gun at Toudou himself.

In terms of making his opinions known, it's true that he never is really forced to express anything beyond a simple "yes, my lord" or a soon-to-be-interrupted "but--!" when assigned a mission. And that all his opinions about Britannia's actions pale in comparison to his passionate disapproval of Zero's methods. Part of why that one camp!thread with Cornelia went so badly for Suzaku, because she did hear about his opinions when she questioned him directly about Shinjuku and JLF. Idealism doesn't quite do it for her.

Well, my favorite song for Suzaku has been and will always be Chameleon Boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbQj8ZHDn70) (yes, that is Flight of Dragons. ^^;;) because that touches on every level possible. But "Breath" is an awesome fighting song and rings better with Ore!Suzaku. "Chameleon Boy" is more of a character study song and any AMV with it would have to be done with a lot of fades and interesting effects to downplay the violent scenes. But seriously "self-destructive gasoline" and "stand by for another breakdown" are my ideal lyrics for Suzaku. And of course the main title itself. In general, I think a vid featuring that song would be really hot.

I think killing either the JLF or Toudou would have done horrible things to Suzaku. Not sure if they rival watching Euphie murder Japanese but something. I think Suzaku would have been all but broken right after. As of now, he's not broken; he has clarity. The type of clarity you get when you're driven and INSANE, but he's still there. Just himself now.

Yes, Zero gives him someone he can denounce without reservations or second-thoughts. He validates Suzaku's belief that some part of Britannia is trying to do the right thing, and the violence would stop if not for something always pushing it along. That something being Zero. Zero makes Suzaku actually take a stand. As does Lelouch. It has been that way when they were children too, when Suzaku was under the impression that children could do nothing special, and Lelouch forced him into looking past that. In a very twisted terrible way, Lelouch could be seen as Suzaku's inspiration.

Also, I do love when we comment with icons of each other's character. XD
