The Shakespeare Theatre's version of "The Tempest" was glorious. I'm sure I'll be able to fill almost six pages with comments about it for my paper. I thought Miranda was a bit forced and sounded like she was trying to hard to show Miranda's awe and naivety but Ariel was SUPERB. He was the audience's favorite with his flittering about, his lovely singing voice, and his mesmerizing arm and leg movements. They really made it look like he was an ethereal being. Trinculo and Stefano brought amusement as the redneck-like drunkards, especially Stefano who did the best "guh?" expressions I've seen. Antonio was devious and manipulating, reminding much of Iago from "Othello" in his scenes. Also cool was how the stage had a front pit filled with water that changed color according to Propero's mood. This version ended without Prospero's final scene of abandoning his spell book and leaves the audience with the melancholy image of the recently freed Ariel, lamenting his loss of purpose with a wilting song.

I think I've decided I won't write about Duke Orsino's latent homosexuality anymore. Now I shall write about the characterization of the servant in "The Tempest," focusing on Ariel and Caliban and their reltionships with Prospero. Ariel does have his "Do you love me, master?" line. I believe Caliban's rage comes from denied affection and false kindness from Prospero. Might also toss in the relationship between Sebastian, Antonio and their King Alfonso if I need more pages.

I find it funny that I named my Ari after Ariel from "The Tempest" before I even understood his character. I'm now delighted that I did.

Naruto is finished so that's what I shall be doing right after this post. That and reading me some play goodness.

Ugh, I have ants around my computer area. I have no idea why. I wish I could call the exterminator. Perhaps vacuuming might help.

EDIT: WTF, man? Why isn't the relay race in the sub? >
