After sitting through hours and hours of Neopets and PetPet advertisements on Nickelodeon, I have completed my Avatar Book 3 marathon. I will be purchasing the DVD as soon as my card has money on it again, as Suncoast sucks and is all out. Some things I picked up upon rewatch:

Can you really still spoil Avatar? Oh well, just in case. )

I also caught RuPaul's DragU this week. Normally, I would have no problem with this show and I would like to emphasize that I only saw one episode so I have no idea whether the rest of the episodes follow a similar pattern. But I was severely squicked at the idea of taking women with extreme self-esteem issues (one was afraid to dress feminine because she had been raped) and then grading them on how well they demonstrate their feminine qualities at a mock-graduation. Especially giving them a C! That's just twisted. I like the idea of drag queens helping women from various walks pretty up, but I think it would work much better if it were more "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" than another competition show. I had some problem finding humor in one drag queen stealing another queen's wig for her protege when said protege was the former rape victim. Yeah.

And to conclude we shall have our whacky news of the week:

Man sprays semen on women at store. What is the world coming to?

Robbery victim uses feet to text for help. A much better version than what happened to another women in July.

Obama is against Prop 8 but has also said he's against gay marriage. Where do you go with this?

I will return with the final part of my writing meme tomorrow.

Thus is the theme of this year's Otakon experience.

Aside from Gabi's shameful run-in with fate via After School Charisma and thus dooming us to a fire at the convention (which only lasted about an hour and a half) and Graham's equally horrific bout of food poisoning via our favorite sushi place, Otakon was enjoyable. Meet-ups went down as planned, time spent with [livejournal.com profile] yzak and [livejournal.com profile] anatari was awesome, Todd Habercorn and the Voice Actors After Dark panel was mind-blowingly hilarious, X-Japan was properly fangirled and I was able to blow most of my money on Durarara fanstuffs. Though we were all horribly sad the yaoi was a lie.

I also picked up Red Garden, Nabari no Ou and the final R2 set, along with the Vampire Knight artbook (because I am a sheep) and silly fanarts. Gabi got to learn what it's like to play with Nayami's whacky con schedule and even critiqued the Lelouch cosplayers... from a distance. Masquerade was hit or miss but the advanced set did have some magic in the form of "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" for Hetalia, "Telephone" for Utena: Black Rose Saga, "What's This Feeling" for Roy and Ed vs. fangirls, great Street Fighter demonstrations and sexy ninja break-dancing. Also, some great AMVs.

I think I will be waiting another day to return to the real world since Rachel and I have been mass-marathoning Avatar and I kind of want to watch Book 3 now. I enjoy remembering how much I used to love Avatar and shared with Rachel all of the fan reactions and crazy theories that followed all of the major episodes. Since she was only familiar with the movie, it was quite an experience!

In other news, I prefer the manga version of R2 to the anime, I think. Though I still haven't seen the last volume.

Oh yeah, for some reason Gabi broke down and bought the Night Class Vampire Knight outfit and we have since resigned ourselves to cosplay Zero and Aidou at Katsucon. I PREDICT AGONY. Now, to find me a weapon. *insert evil laugh here*

I am filled with rage that Airbender exceeded expectations this weekend. I do hope it dies on the re-watch scale. I don't want to hold it against anyone for going to see it but well, I will possibly be more critical should profits green-light a sequel.

In positive Avatar news, my brother and I discovered Avatar Extras on NickToons the other night and annoyed the hell out of my father by reciting all of the random pop-ups.

I am still failing at journal-swapping because I possibly have hoarder mentality. Over a username! There are no words.

I am totally geeking out over We Are the Fallen. It's my new guilty pleasure. Fake Evanescence is awesome!

I realize I forgot to mention that my writing meme was courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] catystorm.

8. What's your favorite genre to write? To read?

I guess I'm a fantasy writer at heart, although my style is more anime-influenced than traditional-fantasy influenced. I'm more about the characters than the world. (I should probably care more about world-building, as I'm starting to realize my rules/setting make no damn sense. Sob.) My writing falls within the realistic fantasy realm, where it's mostly real world rules, but then magic also exists. I would also say I'm a slash writer, except I don't want my writing defined by the relationships I write but rather by the story itself. Thus, fantasy. My reading preferences also trend toward fantasy, although I tend to loathe series with intensive world-building.

Wow this is some epic hate for The Last Airbender. I feel a bit weird that these people are fans enough to cosplay, implying that they know enough about fan culture to know the whole racebending issue. And they still went. Oh well, at least they're saying the movie sucks ball.

P.S. I will stop spamming my journal when LJ fixes its fucking notifications. It's been two days, you hos.
tempestuously: (Default)
I am sad that the box office indicates that despite the painful slamming Last Airbender has received from the critics, it will probably make money. I just hope not enough to be a hit. BTW, my absolute favorite interview with M. Night is here, where he talks about how his movie will be "without a peer -- without a peer -- one of the most culturally diverse movies ever made. I wonder what the air's like on his planet.

Also, my work put me through the most agonizing compliance training ever invented.

30 Days of Writing Meme )

3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)?

I use baby name books. I originally named all of "Psychosis" characters using the Sailormoon standard of having their name reflect their power or some aspect of their personality. The names were of course Japanese. So when I went to Westernize the lot, I tried to keep up the tradition. I look for names that both relate to the character and sound cool. Surnames are vaguely a mixture of mythology. Gaeal. Ambrose. Fenric. I try to avoid ordinary names, although many of my characters end up with normal-sounding nicknames. "Heritage" uses a similar method, but there is more Greek influence.

I fail beyond words at world-building so I am incredibly lazy about naming fictional places and usually go for things that sound neat. Carthala is a high school in "Psychosis." Ataraxis is the city. Yes, ataraxis is a play on the meaning of psychosis. I rather enjoy that. Lunade is where "Heritage" takes place.

It depresses me that I wanted to post something ass-retarded in the hate meme, but I can't because anon posting is actually f-locked. Oh noes I exposed the secret. I don't care. I'm bitter. Friggin' elitist haters. I was enjoying myself too.

I need to go buy the cats something to eat, but that requires me to regain full vision. It better be back tomorrow morning so I can go see Batman.

I think now I will do a list of things I have to do this weekend to prepare for visit:

1. Shop for actual food (may do this Sunday)
2. Finish assembling room
3. Clean car
4. Figure out a metro/light rail plan
5. Steal a Wii. Find a place to rent Okami.
6. Come up with plan for getting to airport after work. I should probably ask for a time...
7. Wash clothes.
8. SOMETHING IMPORTANT/COOL GOES HERE.

I want to be a BNF. But alas, I just never have the time for posting/commenting that much anymore. That and the fact that I tend to go screwy from time to time. Like this week. Sorry abut that, peeps.

Also Avatar. )

In other news, I am only mostly addicted to Dr. Horrible and madly in love with Neil Patrick Harris. Though, the crowning achievement is Joss' ramblings in his Master Plan. No matter how EVIL the man can be -- I think he, the Clamp ladies and Taniguichi need to get together for tea and carnage some day -- he is still the world's craziest fanboy.
tempestuously: ([avatar] toph can kick yo' ass)
Quick whine. Best communities should not use fanart icons. If you are going to qualify people on their iconing abilities, I say qualify them on the ability to use the source material. Note, the whining will end when my favorite sites stop shutting down and leaving messages like "Don't steal my work" in Japanese.

... My cats are totally high and rape-licking each other. It's friggin' hilarious.

Interview yesterday was... interesting. Yeah. Also, I forgot to watch Lost as usual. Fail me.

I blew my B&B gift card on random manga. [livejournal.com profile] kadekmoment recommended Vampire Knight so I'm giving that a spin. I also picked up Switch 1, Tsubasa 15, Godchild 7 and Naruto 26.

I also want to give a shout out to [livejournal.com profile] realms_of_life, who has provided me with much entertainment in her dark!Nunnally theories. I do love dark theories.

And now for Avatar )

Why do you have to scare me, PR. )

The revamped Geass site has spruced itself up and posted some images for R2. I can clearly see that Suzaku is not entirely rage puppy so I'm quite pleased. GF also reminded me about the creator's mentioned that Lelouch will have to overcome some ordeal before the series can began in earnest so I'm almost dead set on the warped reality bit for him and Rollo. It seems to be the theory everyone is latching onto. Besides, Lelouch has his geass back for the main R2 promo pic. I'm still not crazy about the new Zero costume. Too much is going on with it.

Avatar was gay. )
tempestuously: ([avatar] off my side with you)
OMG I forgot what sexkittens Kamui and Fuuma can be. This is mostly me going on about this subject in relation to a certain OVA. )

Caught up on Naruto, mostly because I wanted to see Sai and the end of the Gaara arc is a good emotional piece. Though I think the bringing Gaara back from the dead was significantly less emotional than the handshake of gay. Gaara seeing the whole village full of people that loved him was sweet. The new ED is just Sai fanservice, which I guess is ok. Sai is one pale mofo. But they did let him say his line about asking if Naruto has a penis so they points for that.

Also caught up on Heroes. Now I shall blather on about that. )

Then we watched Battlefield Earth. I can't remember anything about this movie. Even watching it with Riff Trax was probably a waste of my time. I think the message about Scientology I took away from that movie is that Scientology kind of makes me want to shoot myself in the head so I never have to experience something that godawful ever again. Hehe LJ forces me to capitalize Scientology as if it were a legitimate religion. Lolz.

Caught up on Avatar. I feel stupid because I just figured out that Azula is younger than Zuko. I did not realize she's only 15. This entire time I thought she was the older sister. This fucks with my entire mindset. Now I talk about the episode that must not be named. )

William and I spent a good portion of the aftermath of watching said episode, comparing Lelouch and Zuko's childhoods and royal influences. I will have to type it up someday because it was pretty awesome. I think the crux was that Zuko had full security to the thrown but was forced into submission (hence his loud/violent outbursts of pent of frustration), whereas Lelouch was relatively pointless in the royal scheme but developed a vicious pride (hence I CAN DO IT MYSELF THIS IS MY PROBLEM). Emo exiled princes are amusing.
tempestuously: ([tsubasa] touch of destiny)
I hear tale of the newest Avatar two parter. It makes me excited and thus I have trouble sleeping. But I will try anyway as soon as I mention two very important things. One, all of you X fans who commented on the previous post are awesome and deserve puppies, possibly supplied by Subaru. And two, adding a "ly" to the end of an RP username is RETARDED. Stop doing it, RP-ers in general!
tempestuously: ([cat] too awesome for you)
Many things have been making me feel better after the suckitude of this week. One, Avatar spoilers! I'm so sorry about this. I did not realize these episodes were not completely aired yet. Again, I'm sorry. )

Also been learning things about the Geass game. Apparently Deithard heartmarks at Zero. HE HEARTMARKS AT ZERO. Then Cornelia yells at him. There is not one thing about this game that isn't retarded awesome.

I will be attending another party in a few hours and won't be back until later today.
tempestuously: ([gs] ohgod he's touching me again)
Oh yes, The Beach was one of Avatar's best episodes ever. Especially ending and now I understand the randomness of the IRC chat from last night, which I think puts the episode best.

[Lulu] Zuko, I need to jump you some time. angry exhiled princes should totally meet
[Toph] ... omg yes
[Zuko] YES TOTALLY
[Toph] except that lulu doesn't fail the way zuko does
[Zuko] Yeah Zuko is like an Everlasting Gobstopper of fail and rage.
[Lulu] ... wait did you just use the words "lulu doesn't fail", Toph?
[Toph] amazingly, yes.
...
[Lulu] this is all the more reason for us to meet, Zuko. XD
* Lulu wants to have someone to point at and laugh
[Zuko] I'm here for you, Lulu.
...
[Mytho] Does this make me the prince with the least fail? ...:D

In other news, I'm heading out for the weekend so catch y'all Sunday or something.
tempestuously: ([axel] burn baby burn)
Well all of my options for have a life teamed up to screw me today so I feel unproductive and crappy.

Again, mixed reactions to Avatar. I love seeing more attention given to Sokka because he really is an awesome character. He's kind of like the Xander of the group, and the idea of him as a sword fighter fits in with his warrior heritage. I still would have liked knowing his training occurred in a span at least longer than a week. I don't like it when people learn master things just like that. I think he learned faster than Katara. But meteor sword can never be beat. I hope it has special powers that nobody knows about yet. Also, it creeps me out but my favorite pairing in this show is Sokka/Katara. Seriously, they have more chemistry than anyone. And Toph's blushing felt forced. I'm so looking forward to seeing the Fire Nation dork it up on the volleyball field. Fire siblings team-up! Azula and Zuko so cute.
tempestuously: ([loveless} kitty likes)
Having watched Gundam, I have made my choice, and it be Lockon. Haro-pal + HOT = COME TO NAYAMI. I am so shallow, and the pretty boys make me squee. Setsuna is so Ritsuka at the moment. I hope he'll do the cutely flustered thing as well. Allelujah is also hot but minus Lockon's slick personality. Gundams are not the shinies I prefer, and thus I am sad.

Avatar was hit or miss for me. Katara was very pretty, and I don't mind seeing the rebellious/altruistic side of her. I also liked how there were actually consequences for what she did. And the team-up at the end was nifty. But I'm still eh, do we have to portray Katara as the Patron Saint of All That Is Good and Pure about Avatar? She's becoming more and more like the saintly figures of anime, and that is earning a frown from me. I get it. Water is purity. It's healing. It's the source of all life. Can we stop making Katara a metaphor and more of a person? Please. Loved Doc by the way. Oh Avatar, you and your crazy extras. The not-so surprise ending was also somewhat rewarding.

ETA: Installing an LJ mood theme is a son of a bitch. Especially when it doesn't want to acknowledge my commands. But seriously, can we not use Lulu/Schneizel *fanart* for loved. That kinda made me throw up in my mouth. :(
tempestuously: ([avatar] toph can kick yo' ass)
... I-I don't believe I requested to see Sokka's chibified ass. Um yeah. Anyway, I liked the new Avatar a lot better than the angst-fest that was the premiere. While I understand why they had to do it to balance the tension of the finale, I much prefer when Avatar's being crackilicious and serious at the same time. Oh Zuko, you issue factory you. And I don't care what anyone says, I like Mei and Zuko. I don't even care that she's totally using him. It's cute when they hate things together. Still, that was a blatant rip-off of Footloose. I expected to see a random cameo by Kevin Bacon. It also reminds me why I occasionally think Katara is a Mary Sue. Not always but she has these moments. That dance was pretty representative of why. Also can you understand how much I don't care about a dating 13-year-old? I seriously don't. Zuko is at least of an age where I might be a little intrigued. Stupid society and its belief that everyone must be dating. Liked the dance itself though.
tempestuously: ([avatar] off my side with you)
Argh! Need Terra e finale now! I want to understand what the hell Keith is doing. I just know these two are going to tear me up. But I will not spoil myself as I did with Geass. I will wait for a sub. I already know how you end, Terra e, but I'm still holding my breath. My Jomy/Keith lovings will never die!

Also, I'm not sure how I feel about new Avatar. It's different from the series I'm used to. But I am loving the Fire Nation side. Mei is the delicious tsundere I adore, and Azula is just pure hotness. Sexy manipulative hotness. As a bonus, they fixed Zuko's hair. His Avatar angst is so cute.
tempestuously: ([geass] i'm the prettiest)
Oh I forgot. I had request arts to share. This is mostly for my whacky CG friends ([livejournal.com profile] twostepsideways has already seen), especially you, Sapphy, because it really makes me think of your femme!Lelouch. Kade and I will have much fun with her, I'm sure.

Art by beanclam )

And now to clean room, wash clothes and watch Avatar. and angst about how i'll never have translations for the picture drama.
tempestuously: ([tutu] once upon a dream)
I missed the Avatar premiere. I is sad. But I got Tom and Matty out of the deal.

Bourne Ultimatum was everything I'd hoped it would be, with insane fight scenes, car chases that made me wince and Bourne being his usual PTS-sy self. I want him to hook up with Nikki now. They're so cute together. I love how Bourne can shoot up people who are peppering him, but when it comes to an eye-to-eye shot, he's like "NO DON'T WANT TO KILL" and backs down. Bourne is such a woobie when you get right down to it. I think this is my favorite of the trilogy because I love what's done with all the characters and it had the bare minimum of Bourne's dull girlfriend. Also, I love watching Bourne screw the CIA.

I bought the wrong American NewType because I suck, but I got a pretty Kobato picture of out my troubles. Not worth $13 but it's something.
tempestuously: ([avatar] someone needs a hug)
As for our random song lyrics, "Minority" will be the song featured in my upcoming Geass layout because I decided I'm sick of angsty/melancholic lyrics. Bring on the crack. We'll pretend that Lelouch isn't going to turn into a power-hungry bastard and actually believes in his vision of protecting the weak.

I can't believe people are trying to find canonical logic in the Avatar short. It's like Narutards trying to find logic in the Sports Short. People, they are mocking you. Sigh sigh sigh. Best part of the short was definitely Jet comforting sad widdle Zuko. Though I enjoy anything that mocks Haru because Haru be boring. Momo was disturbing. Not as disturbing as the fanmade video that makes Geass look like a school harem. Ouch.

I'm watching the sister's kitten, Kit-Kat, which makes my kitty Sasuke-neko look like a midget. But Sasuke-neko's a bitch so it evens out. I think Kit-Kat is some mutant wildcat beast since her ears look weird and she's unusually built for a 9-month old kitten. The cats think I've betrayed them as usual and refuse to come out from under the bed. I might take pictures later. She is pretty.

More plans for Heritage )
