I have no idea why I'm writing this
Jun. 10th, 2008 08:39 pmSup. I am here with your awkward political commentary. One, let's make no mistake about the fact that ALL national politics bore me. I can't get OMG SUPER EXCITED about Obama like everyone else. Yeah it's history-making and all that. But I have serious doubts about his ability to actually win. Making a statement is pretty but I don't want a Republican again, even though I don't entirely hate McCain. I just don't think our nation is civil enough to vote a Black man president. It's disappointing but yeah. So while I'm glad to see the tremendous outpouring of support for Obama both in the Net world and the real world, I am pretty indifferent to it. Oh I'll vote but it's going to be a bit jaded.
Two, I hate smoking. I want to slap everyone who smokes in the face. I think it's a disgusting habit that slowly kills you and makes everything it touches smell. That said, I'm now starting to believe the no-smoking in public places ban is wrong. While it makes me happy to not have to tolerate smoke, I am of the belief that unless you are actively endangering others (no, I'm not going to argue second-hand smoke tonight), the government should stay out of your life. I've realized I can't advocate a woman's choice for abortion, a same sex couple's right to marriage and limited censorship while cheering on the government's control of a passive drug. If people want to be stupid and give themselves lung cancer, let them. We have the technology to build safer facilities to filter smoke. Those that don't, yeah you guys can't offer indoor smoking. But I am completely against government regulation of private lives. As much as I hate it, smoking falls under that category.
And the final bit. I heard some commercial about a mother bragging about how her 8-year-old knows how to download using her MP3 player, which she bought from Wal-Mart. I'm sorry but 8-year-olds downloading anything scares the hell out of me. I would prefer if all computer/technology-use by children was parental-monitored until they were 14 at least. Children are too lawless nowadays. Few respect their parents, and many parents fear their children. Children seem to think they are entitled to so much. I don't understand it at all. It's because of all those child abuse accusations dangling over their heads. I have nothing wrong with smacking a kid upside the head if it will stop him from running in the street and getting run over or wracking up $1,000 phone bill. Maybe this is why I shouldn't have kids...
In fandom news, "Everyday" by Rascal Flatts is totally my Zero/Yuuki song. D'aww.
