As "Eclipse" is on the horizon and I keep seeing a combination of feminist postings while being slammed with Twilight everywhere I look, I can foresee a rant post in the near future. But that is not today. No, today is fandom amuses me day.

One of the Celebritology ladies had a baby this weekend. She named it Desmond. MLIL.

On Friday, my male coworker was trying to amass pieces of the Cullen family so he could win prizes from the Burger King Twilight contest. He has never seen a single movie. MLIT.

On Thursday, a friend I haven't talked to since the Great Snowpocalypse of 2010 called me and asked me if I wanted to go with him to see "The Last Airbender." I informed him that I wouldn't be giving that man any of my money and neither should he. There was awkwardness and then he hung up. MLIA?

When Sue came to see us in D.C., she brought bookmarks advertising "Mockingjay."

I really need to see the new Who. The British reviews look stellar so far and I want to see what Moffat is capable of when it comes to finales. I'm rooting for you, Steve.

I'm debating on finish "Hundred Thousand Kingdoms" tonight since I really want to know what's going to happen between Naha and Yeine.

How to put this delicately. Final Dr. Who blew monkey chunks. BUT since one of my New Year's resolutions is to be less bitchy on LJ, I will instead focus on moments of the finale that I liked. His name is Alonso. )

I spent the last few days with Dana watching Sherlock Holmes, Tinman and Terminator Salvation. Despite her best attempts, I still refused to watch New Moon. I also went shopping because she is a terrible influence on me. I love Sherlock Holmes. So much gay yet awesome women characters at the same time. Salvation was ok. Tinman was fun except for the last half.

I get to go back to my apartment tomorrow. Sadface.

I don't have words for the amount of fail contained in Dr. Who: End of Time Part 1. Russel T. Davies, you write story about as well as the writers of Countdown to Final Crisis. Way to destroy my hopes and dreams for the reunion between the Doctor and the Master. My only worthwhile image was the Master in the collar. Mmm so sexy. Part 2 better make some sense. Ugh.
tempestuously: ([wolf] how about a taste of my fangs?)
Davies, you really aren't as clever a writer as you think you are. I watch Dr. Who for a wild adventurous romp not a dull clodding hammer to the skull and knife to the heart. I shouldn't have to prepare a chaser to watch Dr. Who, I really shouldn't. I miss when this show was fun. Remember fun, Davies? No, I didn't think you did.

Rant to follow when my headache goes away. But I did have fun today playing Super Mario Brothers for the Wii and watching Star Trek with the Tom.
tempestuously: ([tutu] *hug*)
I have spent the last few days either watching kiddie shows or Disney movies. I have to say that I was not at all fond of Mulan 2, mostly because they destroyed Mushu's character beyond recognition. Shang was kind of lame as well. I think the only person who retained any of her original personality was Mulan. I guess that's something. I also found my old Russian favorite The Magic Pony, but ironically it's only available in Russian with English subtitles, and I don't want to listen to the original. I'm used to the English dub.

Tom and I hung for a bit yesterday and watched the Dr. Who Christmas special. It was meh. I'm tired of 10 and his saaaaaad and alone emo. He is the most emo Doctor of all of them. I also want to figure out what's going on with Torchwood lately since Tom's explanation of its airing schedule confused me.

All in all, it's been a lackluster weekend.

Better late than never I guess. Ah well, I got to finish Godchild. I will have to say that for the first time ever knowing the ending of the story did nothing to change its emotional impact. Angel Sanctuary will always be my favorite for the characters, but Godchild rules my soul for the storyline. I can't wait for Fairy Cube! I can be Kaori Yuki's bitch one more. Also, reading Godchild 7 proved to me how truly amazing Merryweather is. I love her to pieces. Quick spoiler. )

I'm amused Sci Fi is only about two weeks behind with Dr. Who. I may not have to dl anymore after all. If I can remember to watch.

Weird day yesterday. The problem with coming over Tom's is that it can quickly turn into a double-edged sword. When certain people show up, I retreat to William and chat about Avatar (which he watches) or Geass (which he has the outsider's ability to rationalize in ways that are truly exceptional.) There might be a post coming out of the latter, something that won't go to the main comm. Something about POV and knowledge and response. Because I think the viewing public often forget that they are, in fact, the viewing public and thus privy to everything.

Dr. Who was fun though. Some stuff was cute. We watched the first three. )

Currently watching Torchwood S2. I like much better than S1. "Sleeper" is an awesome episode. Mmm Ianto. )

Watched the episode of Lost I missed. [livejournal.com profile] quebelly was right! And now I go woe. )

I am going to make a decision soon, and I know that once I make it, I can't change my mind. It's become too much a matter of actual stress for me. I can't have it both ways.

In bright and shiny news, CFUD now has a Kallen. I am pleased.

Spent this weekend with the friends, and as usual for the weekends that I'm absent, missed out on other goodness. But seeing as I did catch up with Shippuden, watch OZ Season 1 and the first three episodes of Dr. Who, I say it's a fair trade.

I enjoy talking Geass with William because he really doesn't understand why fans appreciate Lelouch. I told him he won't understand unless he watches it. Most of our discussions are me trying to get him to watch through promoting the political intrigue. From these alone, he's completely convinced Suzaku is justified, which is mostly true, and that the fans are all enamored with a terrorist, something he doesn't get. He better watch it this time. Oh he also argues with me that the Britannians aren't true Britains because he says without the Cesar invasion, the proper mixing of Anglo-Saxon and French blood wouldn't have occurred, and their language wouldn't have evolved the way it is now. I hate hanging with the history fiend.

Having caught up on Shippuden )

As far as my manga readings went: )

Dr. Who Season 3: I like Margaret better than Rose so far because Rose played along with 10's antics and tended to irk me in that fashion. Margaret is more of the straight man for his crazy so the combination is more amusing. Yes, I want him to stop whining about Rose in every episode. I never liked that relationship, and I'm sick about hearing it. Can't 10 and Margaret just space/time-hop without the prerequisite angst? The Shakespeare episode was beautiful, especially when Shakespeare saved the day by quoting Harry Potter. Nice touch.

OZ: I just want to see more of in general. Everyone always tells me Oz is depressing, and it is, but the writing is perfect. Each character has so much to them so that even when you truly hate one of them, there is still something there to remind you that this racist rapist or whatnot is still human. That and I just love Beecher. Crazy-ass Beecher more so. My friend's only got the first four volumes, and I only borrowed Season 2 for now so I'll have to track down the rest.

So I randomly turn on the tv and I see Christopher Eccleston (the 9th Doctor) giving eyes to Kate Winslet. I'm all a flutter and going "The Doctor! The Doctor!" Then a second later a drunken fratboy bursts into the room. Why, it's David Tennant! It's the battle of the Doctors!

Really, the movie is called Jude and about some guy's love for his cousin. It's pretty damn depressing, but I enjoyed Eccleston's acting. I like him better than 10 unlike the rest of the world. Eccleston seems like someone I would have more in common with.

I think we'll do this journal entry in sections because this week has been amusing yet mostly uneventful.

Before that, am I the only one who watches Episode 23 of Gankutsuou and during THE BIG SCENE starts subconsciously hearing the ending theme from Christine's final scene with the Phantom. You know, the "Pitiful creature of darkness, what kind of life have you known? God grant me courage to show you you are not alone." ... Yeah, it's probably just me.

Riff Trax: Best thing ever. Seriously. If you miss MST3K on Sci-Fi, here's the next best thing. This made Daredevil watchable. They hate Colin Farrell almost as much as me. Ah kindred spirits. Although nothing could salvage The Grudge. "Wow, this movie doles out terror by the thimblefull." Matrix was also fun.

Thus I blather on about Eyeshield, Dr. Who, Geass and anything else I might have fangirled lately. )

Shopping recommenced after [livejournal.com profile] quebelly kidnapped me to try and make me feel better. Then there was Doctor Who with things like "the Asian child." Oh and also Satan and Daleks vs. Cybermen, complete with computer-speak snark. "You will destroy the Cybermen with four Daleks?" "We will destory the Cybermen with one Dalek." I love the Daleks. They're so quirky. "Delete" vs. "Exterminate."

I also got a super awesome chainmail bracelet out of the deal. Shiny.

Today is Mr. Bitchy-Pants Pika-Boy's birthday today, I hear. But I spent all my money on clothes and have none for a cake. I weep. He doesn't deserve one anyway. He deserves a stomach virus. Mind you, I still do love him. He's my Sasuchu.

Trying to catch up on manga again. Finally got KH manga 1 and KH manga 4. I really hate the disturbing way Sora is drawn when he's being a nut. I want to put him down with a tranq or something. I think he's rabid. Leon is suitably smexy. Definitely not enough evil Riku. Got Cantarella. Still awesome storyline and fun characters. Cesare. Ah, and Yugioh: Duelist 15. This volume blew me away so much more than the anime version of this same arc where Malik pits Yuugi against a brainwashed!Jou. Jou is far more insane and his deck is far more painful. Yami is a lot more broken up about the whole thing. And Kaiba...Well, let's quote Kaiba for a moment here.

Kaiba: "A death match between Yuugi and Jounouchi!"
Mokuba: "[Niisama]! Are you going to let them do this? Let's help them."
-Note, this comes from the kid who told Kaiba to leave that loser Jou behind just a few pages earlier. Also, the manga has Mokuba call Kaiba "Kaiba" and since I know that is way wrong, I refuse to acknowledge it.
Kaiba: "I can't believe Malik's mind control is this strong. To make them fight such a sick duel...Even at my worst, I never would have done this. The only way to find the answer is for someone to die? I don't want to know if that's the price! I have to rescue them!"

...kaiba? That speech came from Kaiba? I know Kaiba's not the unmitigated bastard 4Kids portrayed him to be but still, to see Kaiba so worked up over someone who's not Mokuba literally fries my brain. And he is upset. When he can't interfere because Malik's goons snatch Mokuba, he's majorly frustrated and worried about Yami/Yuugi. He also shows concern for Jou's welfare as well. It makes a whole lot more sense that he saves Jou later by dropping the key down to the water. Before that seemed just like a whim since I didn't know the whole story, but now I see he was still trying to help since he couldn't during the main fight. Whatever happened in Duelist Kingdom made a HUGE impact on Kaiba in the manga. Sure, he's still pathologically obsessed with beating Yuugi in the tournment, but he also has the ability to look beyond his own concerns when he's in better control of his issues. I love manga Kaiba. He's so complex. It's good the anime gives us a bit more development in Doma Arc to make up for what we lost in Battle City from the anime changing the storyline around.

As for the answer Kaiba is seeking, he says it's whether Yuugi will sacrifice his friends to reach his destiny. Yami told him he would only find the answer through being with his friends. I think Kaiba's real question is more of "Are your bonds with others more important than your goals?" This is one of Kaiba's main struggles through Battle City, aside from his issues with destiny and hatred.

Randomly, Kaiba's devotion to Blue Eyes always cracks me up with the sheer magnitude of his pride for that card.

Kaiba: "Teamwork is all well and good...but only blood with make up the sacrifice for the wrath...of my Blue Eyes White Dragon!"

Honey, it's just a card game. Remember that.
