I see another polirant approaching. This one on the mosque they want to build near by the 9/11 crash.

I am making my brother a trifle for his birthday. He has no idea what that it is. This should be fun!

I am still undecided on whether to see the Scott Pilgrim movie. Good reviews but still UGH MICHAEL CERA HOW I HATE YOUR FACE. If it was any other lead, I would be on this movie in an instant. But yeah, Cera just makes me rage with his basic existence. It's not even him as a person. I just can't stand his face. So shallow.

Flight of Eagles is shaping up to be my favorite yet. Mini spoilers. )

Since everyone has been so lively on the Geass comm lately, what with the anniversary of the start of Britannia's invasion of Japan and all, I have tracked down the Otakon Geass AMVs for sharing!

Lelouch Lamperouge stars in Christopher Nolan's "Inception."
Won best in trailer/parody. Oh yeah, and there's a Roy Mustang cameo.

Pizza Hut vs. KFC

And last but not least...

BRITANNIA FUCK YEAH!
Won best in comedy. As an added note, Gabi especially adores this one for the opening between Lelouch and Nunnally.

Random quotes of the day:
"Glenn Beck is an oxymormon - sometimes he makes sense... "
- WaPo comment on Glenn Beck's support for gay marriage. Yeah, you read that right.

"This is so exciting! I've never been involved in a three-way before."
- my father referring to being on a three-way phone conversation with my brother and I. talk about awkward.

OMG LOST EPILOGUE OMG SO GOOD BEN HURLEY OMG

Moving along, finished "Way of Shadows" and starting "Victory of Eagles." The former was quite enjoyable, although it did go overkill with the plot twists near the end. Not that each of these twists wasn't well backed-up and completely plausible. It just seemed one after the other for the whole last 100-some pages. My poor Logan. I am also slashing Solon and Feir because I can.

I wanted to do the artist meme with COUNTRY because I like being a contrarian. Let's go!

Using only song names from ONE ARTIST, cleverly answer these questions. Pass it on to 15 (or more) people you like, include me. You can't, however, use the band that I used. Try not to repeat a song title. It's a lot harder than you think! Repost as "my life according to (band name)".

Well, that was awesome fun. I love Brad.

Time for Good News, Bad News with Nayami!

Good: My kitty seems to be improving somewhat with her meds. She does keep doing her pirate thing though.
Bad: I won't be able to hit up any Fringe events this weekend because I don't want to miss one of her treatments by being in D.C.

Good: I am so looking forward to seeing Inception this weekend.
Bad: I so don't have money to blow on movies with Otakon on the horizon.

Good: I love my job sometimes, especially when I get to talk to awesome people.
Bad: I am feeling distant from my workplace again, as more people keep leaving without me even knowing they had put in their two weeks. In this case, it was someone I thought I knew fairly well. I might as well work from a shack in the woods for all the connection I get from work. :(

Good: I am finished with "Empire of Ivory." It has been my favorite of the series, with good pacing, much more interaction with the dragons and a very compelling storyline. I can't wait to find out what happens to Laurence in the next volume.
Bad: I am still like number 70 on my waiting list for "The Passage."

Good: They are talking about making new Beavis & Butthead cartoons.
Bad: They may face much harsher copyright laws over the music this time. :(

Good: I am going to start eating healthy this week.
Bad: I have been eating atrociously all week (including Burger King) and now feel incredibly FAT, which is strange for me since I never worry about that sort of thing, outside of thinking I have fat thighs.

Good: Username purges will allow people to have the usernames they want.
Bad: I am a possessive packrat who opposes these things on irrational principal. Fortunately, I never choose good usernames so I doubt anyone will want mine. o/ PS, don't try to argue this with me. My viewpoint is irrational and unchanging.

Also, license plate of the week is "TO DSNY." D'aww

Now to pick up where I left off on my writing meme thingie. Featuring: romance, protagonists and antagonists. )

Sob, the heat makes me so moody. I'm even sad for the LiLo, even though she so doesn't deserve it.

I was researching designer cats today. As much as I can't stand what they are doing to the poor things, I admit that the Savannahs look damn cool. Thank goodness they are too expensive for me to ever consider ones. But d'aww doggie-cat.

I'm also really into "Empire of Ivory." I think the pacing is better since something other than political intrigue is at the heart of everything. That and Iskeria is the best character ever. She makes me smile whenever she is around. Her and Jane Roland.

I am still nitpicking at "Psychosis" backstory to make it less deus ex machina. Stupid complicated bloodlines. I was looking at the British line of succession today, and I think that is easier than the friggin' Alistar/Destin/Evangel bloodline thing. I should change Ty's hair color to strawberry blond like Kat's.

9. How do you get ideas for your characters? Describe the process of creating them.

Oho! I love this one. I operate on a process called hybridization and inversion. In plain English, I take character concepts I like from favorite fictional works and combine them or invert them in ways people least expect. I have spoken about my misanthropic empath. Dominic is also a huge inversion of the violent, angry type. Sylver is a special twist. I try to create characters with very real flaws that will be slowly revealed and either conquered or drag the character to their destruction. I also try to consider their family life (THIS IS HUGE), friends, intelligence and hobbies. If they're fighters, I decide on a fighting style for them: do they dive right in? do they strategize? do they rely on others? Backstory usually comes in chunks as I figure out what gave each character the traits they are best known for. Naming is generally one of my last steps, as the names reflect the character. I also want to settle on what matters most to each character, although this can change as the story goes on. Their motivation is key, as I demand each of my characters have sincere agency, even if I don't like them.
tempestuously: ([hg] come to finish me off sweetheart?)
Law & Order. :(

I read something somewhere today that seemed to suggest that if you're not married by a certain age, it must mean you are gay. Good to know.

I got to the part in "Black Powder War" where Lien finally spoke. Then I couldn't stop LOLing at how she sounded like a super villainess. Seriously, I was playing it out in the my head in the most well-bred, arrogant evilness I could manage. I must have looked so special laughing in the middle of the Wendy's parking lot. I am really loving this book, especially Temeraire's come-to-Jesus moment about what Britain will actually accept about dragons and Tharknay, but that speech HAHAHA. Hope to see you again real soon, Lien.

I am going to watch the episodes of Deadly Premonition I missed when their computer was down, thus forcing me to resort to watching "The Care Bears Movie 2" and "My Little Ponies: The End of Flutter Valley." Then I'm going to bar myself from the Net until I actually get ready for my trip tomorrow.

I will leave you with Tea Party hypocrisy though.

Although she opposes abortion and gay marriage, Grolig said she thinks personal freedoms are "diminishing" in the country.

"By that, I mean the intrusion of the government into our lives takes away from our freedom, what we should eat, what we should do and how we behave," she said.

"Yet when I say that, it appears that individuals and groups who do not share the same beliefs I do are being the ones who are being allowed to behave in ways that I would consider immoral."
tempestuously: ([cat] too awesome for you)
Doctor told me I'm 10 pounds overweight. I think if I told other people the doctor said that, they'd punch me in the face. But at least my cholesterol is good.

I started up "Black Powder War" and I think the overall tedium of the style is really starting to grate on me. I love whenever Temeraire is around or when Laurence has the interesting characters around him, but damn I wish I didn't wish Laurence himself wasn't so mind-numbingly DULL. I also wish I could just read the dialogue parts and skim the narration. It would save me so much time. I need books that provide a faster read. I am simply not patient. That said, I persist solely because I really love Temeraire.

I read about some political journalists who are in a tizzy because the "Precious" star wouldn't let them interrupt her conversation with someone else and wouldn't let the MSBNC guy take pictures with them. She also replied to someone telling her that her performance was "incandescent" with "I guess I should say thanks." Honestly, I would have said the same thing. How the hell do you respond to something that flowery? I don't think this actress is a diva; I think the journalists are suffering massive entitlement issues because they got snubbed by the star they've spent news pages fawning over. That they had the lack of class to write about this incident in the newspaper is even more wrong.

Man, I am bored today. I need to decide if I want to see "Iron Man 2" this weekend. I've heard it's not as good as the first one, but it's still much fun.

I have also had it up to here with people and their PC issues. I can't believe the NRA is trying to argue against keeping people on the terrorist watch list from buying a gun.
tempestuously: ([terra]look and see her how she sparkles)
I cannot post the real picture I want for SPOILERS, but another contender for best episode of the season last night. Lost feels itself again. I knew Des would save us all.

I finished "Throne of Jade." I'm noticing Nordik's tendency to do excellent build-up but very sloppy climaxes that usually move too quickly to stay on top of the real action and more than not are solved via deus ex machina rather than actual actions of the characters. I still like, but just something I note. I was also disappointed Lien never even spoke. Lame. To tell the truth, aside from the cool dragon society, I didn't particularly enjoy this book as much as the first. The China parts really dragged and the political aspect became way too heavy. Also, the significant cutbacks in Temeraire's page space toward the end.

I really want to read "Gods Behaving Badly," but as I have had no chance for library time, I will probably be at least starting "Black Powder War." Either that or more of Geass' "Knight."

Ugh, I have to go to work super early tomorrow to make up for today and since I have ANOTHER appointment (tests) next Tuesday, I'll be eating up more sick leave. As of now, I am seriously debating whether I can afford my spring trip, considering the medical bills I'm probably racking up. I have no idea how my insurance works. That and I'm also giving serious thoughts to getting an MRI. My doctor suggested it, but I think she was just spooked by my family's fatal cancer history. I'm trying not to think about any of this too much.
tempestuously: ([lestat] this night was made for me)
Dentist says I'm crazed. That's unfortunate.

Best books ever! My favorite is "Where did Willy Go?"

I wonder if I'm the only person who silently cringes whenever people reply to an obvious prank post with "Oh it's probably April Fool's." I saw so much of that on the Internet today. Guys, I like laughing at the gullible people, come on. It makes me feel better for totally getting pwned amid CFUD's prank last year. But yeah, there should be two ways to reply to an obvious April Fool's post (whether article or random statement): 1.) FREAK THE FUCK OUT (my personal favorite btw) and 2.) Act as if nothing is out of the ordinary. "I always knew eventually John's Hopkins was going to rename itself John Hopkins because of all the misspelling." It's much more fun that way.

D'aww the story between Lien and the emperor son's son is so cute, even if the guy is an ass.

Also, spot the Doctor Who reference and win a prize.
tempestuously: ([cat] too awesome for you)
Cake vs. Pie? Now this is one bracket I can get behind.

I spilled a cup of Rita's Italian Ice Blackberry just before bed. This cup managed to land squarely on the edge of my computer in such a way that it splashed the stack of art books I store under the desk. The victims were Angel Sanctuary, Code Geass and Gankutsuo, which now bear dark reddish purple stains on the edges of their pages. I suppose it's fitting, but it still pisses me off. My only solace is that the CG book was Complete and not Mutuality, as I first feared. I seriously would have been on Amazon right now had it been Mutuality.

I made chocolate chip whole wheat cookies last night. I'm actually fairly proud of them since they're this perfect blend of crunchy and soft.

I'm also liking that "Throne of Jade" moves much faster than "His Majesty's Dragon" did, but I am debating on tossing "Gods Behaving Badly" in between "Throne" and "Black Powder War." I'm just too tempted from what I hear, and the Temeraire books are a bit of a strain on the eyes.

Your quote of the day:

"Biden: is there a vice presidential swear jar?

Roxanne Roberts: Between Joe and Rahm, you just solved the budget problem."

Today's lost image love is a two-fer since island lords are sexy. It's chess LOST-style.

Levitas. :( Also, why the hell does Temeraire call Laurence by his last name when their relationship is supposed to be all bff/fathersonly? It just weirds me out. I'm inclined to believe Novik does this simply because she likes the name of Laurence more than William but that William is the more common name of the era. Still, it's dumb. Oh yes, book finished. Now onto "Throne of Jade."
tempestuously: ([geass] we both go down together)
As I have reached the point of diminished returns for my sanity, I figure I should give warning. For much of this week, I have been plagued by my seasonal nervous breakdowns. As many know, I am a hypochondriac, but some anxieties are harder to shake than others. This leaves me irritable and distracted. I will do my best to conduct myself as normal and hopefully live up to commitments, but if I wander away, it is not because I'm not interested in you, it's probably that I am lying down or otherwise freaking out about some strange soreness somewhere on my body.

In other news, centerpiece is complete, bread is sent and I shall finish "His Majesty's Dragon" tonight.

Your odd trivia today: Obama on Fox News? That was an odd interview.
tempestuously: ([as] no remorse cause i still remember)
My Irish contribution. It has the Pogues ooooh.

Also, I am with those who are a bit worn on the LJ bitching. I don't think half of the things LJ does wrong are done with malice so much as, for lack of better word, ignorance. As in ignorant to the big picture impact. It's a business after all. As I've said before, I only desire one thing from LJ and one thing alone. FOR THEM TO GIVE ME MY COMMENT NOTIFS WITHIN TEN MINUTES OF RECEIVING A TAG. This is not an insane requirement. :\

In book news, I really want more about Levitas. I will feel majorly cheated if his story is unresolved. I want to give the little dragon a hug. That and I think Roland is a cursed name. And for heaven's sake, Novik, pick ONE name for characters and stick with. I get that people have first and last names and that CHARACTERS might refer to them as either, but as your book is in third-person, YOU should stick with one. I have no idea who anyone is in this book half the time. ONE NAME.

I dislike the hate sent toward the RPer who admitted she didn't use the HMD meme because she didn't care what anyone else thought. Yeah, part of it had to do with the snarky wording, but the rest... I didn't see where every player should have to subject themselves to a critique or that they are a lesser person for not doing so. Sure, it might hurt to know that your BURNING OPINION is considered meaningless to someone who just wants to have fun, but hey that's life. Join the Redskins fans.

I just like violence. And I'm still undecided on how I feel about the episode overall.

And yay, my Irish brown bread making was a success! Now to send it.
